The Cigar Lounge Wedding Cocktail Hour
In our 108th installment of the wedding cocktail hour playlist series, we explore the world of fine cigars. Here in our home state of New Jersey, we occasionally see hand rolled cigar stations at weddings. At some point during the wedding - usually after cake cutting, guests step outside to enjoy a freshly rolled cigar prepared by an artisan dressed in a Cuban shirt.
Cigars offer wedding guests a bonding experience and chance to relax from the frenetic dance floor action. Cigars are sensory - touching upon a guest’s smell, taste and touch. To complete the experience, a fine accompanying music playlist is a must.
Speaking with cigar smokers, we realized that “vibe” is more important than a specific musical genre or artist. The music should be atmospheric, relaxed and played at a suitable volume in order to enjoy those deep conversations. Nor is cigar smoking music an hour of all Italian crooner music like Grandpa used to enjoy. Our mix below contains musical style sets within the two hour playlist. These sets include: classic rock, Spanish music reminiscent of Old World Havana, Crooners, jazz, soul and hip hop. As New Jerseyans, we had to include “Woke Up This Morning” from the Sopranos. This is the opening theme song with Tony Soprano driving the New Jersey Turnpike puffing on a big stoagie.
